Match Report

Newcastle staged a dramatic second-half comeback to draw 2-2 with Bournemouth at St. James’ Park in a thrilling Premier League encounter.

Bournemouth took an early lead when Marcus Tavernier opened the scoring in the ninth minute, tapping in a rebound and beating Lukáš Horníček. The Cherries doubled their advantage in the 35th minute after an unfortunate own goal from Malick Thiaw, who misdirected Alex Scott’s cross into his own net after Justin Kluivert’s initial shot had hit the post.

Harvey Barnes gave Newcastle hope just two minutes later with a superb long-range shot that soared into the top corner. The Magpies maintained pressure throughout the second half and finally equalized in the 88th minute when substitute Jacob Ramsey fired a low shot across the Gallowgate End to salvage a point. Tactical analysis and key match moments

High-impact changes from Jaissle: Manager Matthias Jaissle changed the course of the game in the 63rd minute, bringing on Jacob Ramsey and new summer signing Matias Fernandez-Pardo. Ramsey’s late equalizer kept Jaissle’s league start as Newcastle manager unbeaten.

A change of momentum in the second half: Bournemouth dominated the first 35 minutes thanks to Alex Scott’s aggressive pressing. However, Newcastle responded, maintaining 58% possession and limiting the Cherries to zero shots on target throughout the second half.

Bournemouth lead problems: The Cherries again showed defensive fragility towards the end of the game, continuing their trend of dropping points after taking the lead at the start of the 2016/27 season.
